About the Book: Understanding Sexual Health
Health education and wellness books written for general public to educate them about major health specific topics. The topic of sexuality has always been a taboo in India. It remains a forbidden and embarrassing subject for discussion right from adolescence to late adulthood. The incomplete and inaccurate information about sex that is gained from friends, magazines and the internet may lead to many unanswered questions and sometimes may even be harmful. What is the correct age for sex education and how should it be imparted? Since there is so much reluctance to discuss it openly, we felt it was the right moment to produce a small book that would provide some of the answers to questions people ask. Thus, the subjects we have written about in this book range from a simple itch in the private parts to what to do about a serious sexually transmitted disease. There are also answers to some of the common questions people ask about physical relationships, marriage, planning parenthood, sexual rights and the law. This book covers topics such as the anatomy of the female and male sexual organs, adolescent sexual health, impotence, erectile dysfunction and HIV and AIDS. All this is carried in a question-and-answer format, liberally supplemented by illustrations, which we hope will make the answers easier to understand. We believe that to live a full life, a person should not only be physically, mentally and emotionally fi t but also be sexually healthy.
